Letting Go: When Trusting God Feels Hard
I speak often about surrendering to God’s plan, both online and in my personal life, so you’d think I’d have it all figured out by now. But if I’m being honest? I recently had a week that was one of those weeks.
The kind of week where I found myself mentally spiraling over what’s working, what’s not, and whether I’m even moving in the right direction. The kind of week where my prayers sounded less like faith and more like frustration:
🗣 “Lord, I trust You, but this doesn’t seem to be working…”
🗣 “Did I even hear You right?”
🗣 “Is it me? Everyone else seems to be making progress, but I feel like I’m standing still.”
I don’t say this to be dramatic—I say it because I know I’m not the only one who has felt this way.
When Surrender Feels Like a Struggle
If you’re anything like me, surrender isn’t your natural posture. I’m a recovering control freak who likes to have a plan, know what’s next, and feel like I have some level of say in how things unfold.
But the closer I’ve drawn to the Lord, the more He’s shown me just how much peace is found in trusting Him instead of trying to figure it all out myself.
Because here’s the truth: We were never meant to carry the weight of this life on our own.
Even when it feels like nothing is happening…
Even when it seems like everyone else is moving forward except us…
Even when we can’t see the full picture yet…
God is still working.
And the most freeing thing we can do? Let go of our grip and let Him lead.
What Surrender Looks Like in Real Life
Last week, when I felt those anxious, doubtful thoughts creeping in, I did the only thing I knew to do:
✨ Sat with Him.
✨ Prayed through the frustration.
✨ Listened to scripture.
✨ Reminded myself of His past faithfulness.
And while my circumstances didn’t magically shift overnight, my heart did. Because that’s what time with God does—it re-centers us on His truth and reminds us that our job is to trust, not to control.
